Thank you to everyone who has contributed pics for the e-zine and slideshow. :) All acknowledgements are down the left hand side of the page.
I can confirm that in either the 1st or second issue of the Skinbyrd Pride Worldwide e-zine, there will be an interview with Carol, lead singer of the Sydney ska/punk/oi band Eager 13. I'm loving their upbeat sound. You can have a listen to them here:
I had no idea there were so many good bands around with byrds in them. It just proves to me even more that we're under-represented. Let's get the spotlight on us byrds and our achievements and contributions to the skinhead subculture!! If there is an awesome band with a byrd (or byrds) in it in your local area that you would like to do a review of, would like to interview or would like me to interview via email, please let me know at skinbyrdprideworldwide@gmail.com with "band" in the header.
And if there is a really inspirational byrd you look up to who you would like to see represented in the e-zine or on the blog, email me at the above address. I'd love to hear from you!!
Keep the faith Byrds! Oi Oi!

E-zine Issue One!! :)
I'm really happy and amazed at how much the facebook group has grown - 181 byrds in 5 days. I'm really keen to start putting the first issue of the Skinbyrd Pride Worldwide e-zine together. I've been making contact with various byrds to gather content for the e-zine and can't wait to get it all back so I can see how it's going to look! Nothing confirmed yet but as soon as I've got all the content together I'll give you a teaser. :)
To express interest in contributing to this or future issues of the the e-zine, please email me at skinbyrdprideworldwide@gmail.com.

Welcome to Skinbyrd Pride Worldwide!!
This website and the facebook group that inspired it were born out of passion for the skinhead subculture and sheer frustration at the fact that most of the skinbyrd groups on facebook say that they don't tolerate racists, yet have friends lists that are full of them and tolerate them posting idiotic, racist crap on the pages.
For those who may have stumbled on this blog and don't know anything about skinhead, let me make one thing clear: SKINHEADS ARE NOT RACIST. Skinhead was born from the fusion of the culture of the poorer, English mods with the culture of the Jamaican/West Indian immigrants who contributed the Rude boy/Rude girl style and their reggae music through the 50s and 60s. Since this isn't an educational blog, that's all the info I'm going to give you. Go to www.wikipedia.org/Skinhead for more info.
To me a skinbyrd is a woman who is strong, honest, independent, practical, outspoken, straight-up and works her hardest at everything she does while still retaining her femininity and sense of identity as a woman. A skinbyrd is a woman who is on an equal par with her man and her male friends and who goes just as hard as they do at everything she attempts. She is not some silly barbie doll clone whose sole aim is to sit around looking beautiful for the pleasure of men, but a gutsy and independent lady who has a very strong mind of her own and does what the hell she wants, when she wants with no apologies for it. To me, skinbyrds are strong women who balance the masculine strength of their male peers with feminine strength of their own and who do so without holding back and without apologising for their own strengths.
My aim in creating this blog is to celebrate skinbyrds and everything that we have contributed and do contribute to the skinhead culture. I feel that we are under-represented in Oi! music and in the representation of our subculture in commonly shared media. So this is to highlight the part that we play in the skinhead culture and everything we contribute to it no matter how big or small, be it creating art, documenting gigs through photography, writing stories or articles, making skinhead themed badges/t-shirts/other accessories, making music, or even just rarking up the mosh pit!!
There will be an e-zine coming too which will be by the byrds, for the byrds. I'm going to be asking for and welcoming contributions of anything and everything by and about skinbyrds. In doing this, I would love to see skinbyrds represented in all our glory, and I would love to see and hear about byrds who have been inspired to follow their passion, to stand out from the crowd and be themselves.
This is a site for Traditional and SHARP skinbyrds so NO racism and NO politics!!! Racism pisses all over the multi-cultural, multi-racial roots of skinhead and I will not be tolerating it on this blog. Any followers who have racist leanings or support racist friends will be banned.
